I am not a social scientist, I first met the hypergamy definition on a Freud’s book on crowds. There he compared the social systems of indigenous populations. Hypergamy there was contextualized and occurred in a chaste system.

In the manosphere, generally people are not talking about castes and social classes, they usually refer to attractiveness, which is a completely different approach. But somehow the manosphere now believes that hypergamy is about women being attracted to Chads.

My question is: If incels are right and it is true that women select their marriage partners basing their choices primarily on physical attractiveness, then how can they be considered “hypergamous” at all?

Ideally, hypergamy is what is most beneficial to incels, since they just can acquire resources and trade them to get a female. But western societies are not as hypergamous as the societies studied by Freud, not even remotely as hypergamous.

Of course, even a cursory examination of studies using the term reveals that such relationships are not particularly common, let alone inevitable as maintained by MRAs.

In contrast to what many members of the manosphere believe (especially MGTOW's), the rate of hypergamy in females has decreased significantly in the developed world (McVeigh 2012). This may be because of greater economic gender equality and because female hypogamy (dating males of lower social status) is less stigmatised.

What we are talking about really is the number of females reproducing for each male reproducing or sexual inequality.
