Explaining the appeal of Trump

A lot of people struggle to explain why Trump is popular but to me there are obvious explanations.

Trump signals to people that he will ignore norms in order to deliver results, here his past as a business man really helps sell that. Voters think that he will fix things by being willing to do stuff other politicians are unwilling to do.

When Trump threatened north korea with "fire and fury" that was him posturing as a though guy who would do what had to be done in order to humiliate and dominate enimies of the US, a lot of voters liked that obviously while some liberals freaked out due to not seeing through that bluff.

Being an outlet for men fed up with the establishment
A lot of men are noticing how the establishment are hostile towards them and trump is a guy they can relate to and support in a fuck you to liberal feminism.

Of course republicans in general are very much anti-male but they are hiding it better than the democrats which helps them con men into voting for them.

Trump himself has been targeted by a lot of feminists accused of various sex crimes. When they couldn't actually prove any of those crimes in a proper court they initiated a farcical "civil trial" against him where they didn't actually have to prove he had assaulted anyone and they highest judgement against him possible.

Even i who isn't exactly a Trump supporter got the impression that there was a lawfare effort targeting him and his allies.

Appealing to stupid people
Generally dumb people can relate a lot better to other dumb people while intelligent people are disliked by the masses unless they hide their intelligence.

Trump said what people wanted to hear and focused his campaign on what people actually wanted even if it was stupid.

Harris on the other hand tried to appeal to the smarter voters but kinda failed since she also ran on dumb policies but she also lost the stupid people since she didn't do enough to pander to them.

He has gotten more and more media infrastructure on his side
While old media has for the most part been hostile towards Trump a lot of media that people have gradually shifted towards has been a lot more positive.

Fox news were kinda forced to largely support Trump due to their viewers expecting that.

Twitter: pro trump (after Elon Musk bought it).
Joe Rogan: pro trump.
Asmongold: pro trump.
Tucker carlson: pro trump.
OANN: very pro trump.

The anti-trump media outlets has in large failed to actually connect with people unlike outlets like Joe Rogan and asmongold.

Vaccine mandates and RFK junior
Biden tried to push trough (and partly succeeded) various vaccine mandates not respecting americans wanting to make their own choices, Trump on the other hand wanted people to be able to decide those things for themselves.

Later RFK junior announced that he was running for president, first in the democratic primary and later as independent. While RFK never stood a real chance of winning he still got around 10% in polls.

Trump did the logical thing in order to win, he actually called RFK junior and offered him a spot in the cabinet (in exchange for dropping out) and then it didn't take long until RFK junior dropped out to endorse Trump. Someone like kalama harris would never offer RFK junior something like that since she (and other democrats) discarded RFK junior as a crazy conspiracy theories and pretended he didn't even exist (as if RFK junior being crazy would stop them from losing the election to trump)-

inside democrat party kamala was considered a dumbass. how did she not pander to the dumbass voters? what about all these people who commented her hairstyle and her margarita and the clothing and on and on... seemed to me she was the trump version but for women this time
Her campaign was unbelievably stupid.

Picked tim walz who is a populist able to pander to people.

She decided to campaign with Liz Cheney instead, not sure why, nobody liked liz cheney.

If she actually wanted to win she should have promised people a lot of free stuff and then not actually deliver once in office.

People projecting their own views upon trump
Trump has had a habit of expressing him in ways such that what he says can be interpreted in different ways.

And him being an obvious liar might actually help him here since people will assume he isn't going to do the things they think are bad.

On the rallies Trump would watch the reaction of the crowd and adjust his messaging based on that. He didn't care about actually pushing a specific political agenda, he cared about winning since that would feed into his narcissism.

This can be compared to idealists who tend to be clear about what they want to accomplish and are less prone to adjusting what they promote based on what the voters think is a great idea (which is very often not actually a great idea).

I think the democrats were like "wow look trump he is a clown we have to be memetic and hip, lets mimic him". Step 2 they pick the dumbass they have in the party, they pick kamala whos an old brood margarita girl, and they think they have their own trump version that has populist appeal. Wrong move they lose.
Actually trump is probably smarter than harris, at least when it comes to actually winning elections.

Trump comes off as more stupid than he actually is due to him constantly pandering to what dumb people want.

People want to be able to express themselves like Trump does
In most western societies saying what trump is saying is not exactly socially acceptable and while people have put up with that for the most part trump repelled against those norms and that is part of his appeal.

Males in particular like trump shattering those old norms.

In a sense trump has sold himself as a liberator from increasingly burdensome social norms that are increasingly far away from human nature.

People are getting used to Trump
The more people see of trump the more he becomes normaized and this causes more people to accept him and his antics.

Even among the people opposed to him the moral has been fading, people are less willing now to go out and vote against him than before even though he is clearly going to be able to have a significantly bigger impact on politics now this time after getting elected once again.

In politics we do see that familiar people have an advantage, even if they screwed up badly in office loads of voters will vote for them again anyway and keep making excuses for them.

A lot of people did correctly think that trump screwed up with the response against sars-cov-2 but then biden did even worse so then suddely trump doesn't look as bad anymore.

Anti-trump media cried wolf too many times
Private media in general is focused on sensationalism and while that might help them get clicks short term it also costs them in credibility meaning that if there is actually a real concern for once people will not listen.

The taffifs that trump talked about implementing is obviously not going to end well but by now people have tuned out and are not paying attention to those things, especially when media focuses on stuff like supposed sex scandals regarding trump.

His planned mass-deportations would have an even bigger impact due to farms, etc losing out on cheap labour but it's too late now.
