Young chicks by default prefer assholes, because assholes behave in a way that mimics how a high-value man would act when dealing with a chick he's not sure is good enough for him -- i.e. he mistreats them, acts like he doesn't care about them, etc. The only way they can get to like a nice guy is if he takes their virginity and imprints himself on them as their first love, such that their preferences and perceptions are adjusted by classical conditioning to fit him.
What assholes and young chicks have in common is that neither of them are really interested in having a family any time soon. Young chicks think they're gonna lock down this asshole and make a different kind of man out of him, or they're so fucked up in the head they think they only deserve an asshole, depending on which theory you go by. Either way, the biological clock isn't ticking too loudly for them, and they haven't yet had a lot of bad experiences yet with assholes, so they don't see a problem with investing time in them.
What happens as chicks get older is that their priorities change and they become ready to settle down and have a family. They have to do this with a nice guy, because a nice guy has no other options but older chicks, and also has the same goals as an older chick (i.e. having a family). Plus the assholes are busy chasing younger chicks, so that leaves only nice guys left for the older chicks. Nice guys and older chicks are therefore a natural pairing.
Most of the incelosphere is composed of youngcels who are simply waiting for their turn. Some may say, "I'm actually a neet and that's why I don't get laid." There's probably some truth to that but what's going to happen is that when these guys get into their late 30s, the more attractive neets will get with the older chicks that haven't decided to just stay single the rest of their lives. Also, the guys who say "I'm too ugly to get a chick" will eventually ascend once they get with an older chick who wants a betabuxx.
As for the guys who are both permaneet AND unattractive, yeah, they might remain incel forever, but it's a pretty small group of guys who are unfortunate enough to fall into both of those categories.
Some guys may say, "Fuck it! If the kitten didn't want me, then I don't want the cat." That's just cope. They want to feel like they're somehow in control of the situation and that they're going to get some kind of revenge for the fact that they had to put up with years of inceldom while these girls rode the carousel. They want to believe there's some way they're not gonna have to deal with the insecurities and whatnot these chicks have from getting dumped or whatever.
But the reality is, men are going to go for the pussy once they realize there's a natural pairing between them and the older chicks. The only thing is, what needs to happen is that there needs to be some compatibility; e.g. the neet needs to get with a career chick. There has to be a balance between what they both bring to the table, and they need to have the usual qualities that make for chemistry. And the guy needs to have a healthy dash of narcissism, as always, to keep from getting some kind of inferiority complex about the whole thing.
He needs to do the usual mental acrobatics needed to not get demoralized by the fact that younger girls don't like him. The thing is, younger girls WOULD'VE liked him if he could've just been first, but that's not allowed in today's society. Let's just take a few permutations of how this works in a society like what we see in 2019:
(1) Asshole -- naturally pairs with hot younger girl
(2) Attractive young guy who shows promise of becoming a successful betabuxx -- naturally pairs with average-to-ugly younger girl
(3) Attractive neet -- naturally pairs with older career girl
(4) Betabuxx, attractive or otherwise -- naturally pairs with older girl
(5) Unattractive neet -- tends to remain incel
