CGpeers claims to offer amnesty for people who bought account/invite there
They didn't however go into details such as what that new cgpeers account would actually entail and if they would still forward information about all this to other private. It's fairly likely that the ones coming forward admitting to this will still get blacklisted by other private trackers.

CGPeers NOW offers AMNESTY for bought accounts!

At CGPeers, we strongly oppose the practice of selling accounts for profit. Not only does it take advantage of unsuspecting buyers, but it also leads to multiple re-sold accounts that cause numerous issues—such as inactive members who fail to seed properly.

For many years, we’ve simply disabled sold accounts; however, we’ve decided to change our strategy. To help counteract account selling, we plan to make it easier for new users to join CGPeers legitimately. But before we implement these changes, we want to extend an opportunity to anyone who previously purchased a stolen or otherwise illegitimate account or invitation, offering them a genuine CGPeers account.

To facilitate this, we’ve launched an amnesty program. For more information about the program and how to participate, please visit:

Beware of Scammers Selling Stolen Accounts or Invites
If you’ve purchased an account, I strongly urge you to act now. It’s only a matter of time before your account gets banned. Scammers will eventually run out of stolen accounts, and they don’t deserve to profit off people like us.

Worse still, many scammers sell the same account to multiple buyers. Eventually, one of those buyers will come clean to the staff, take responsibility, and be granted a legitimate account. The rest will lose their chance.

C45 has stated:

"I will replace one active stolen account with one legitimate account."
But be warned - this promise won’t last forever. It can be revoked at any time. If you’re still seeing this message, the promise still stands.

CGPeers has been running for over 14 years with minimal donations, while scammers continue to profit by hacking and reselling accounts. Even if you change your password, scammers often keep lists of emails and request password recoveries to rip you off again.

Don’t let yourself fall into this cycle. Stop supporting scammers and do the right thing. Reach out and cooperate with the official CGPeers staff on IRC - they’re here to help (remember: english only!).

Spread the word. Take responsibility. Break free from scammers.

How to Protect Your Account from Being Stolen
This applies to both CGPeers and CGPersia Forum.

We strongly urge you to check your system for any potential malware that may have been downloaded—whether from here or any other site. Hackers often install spyware, keyloggers, or other malicious software on your system to steal your credentials.

Do not ignore this warning. If your account gets compromised, we may not be able to recover it in the future, even if you prove to be 100% legitimate. This issue needs to stop, and it’s up to all of us to fight back.

Take action now to secure your system.

r/trackers is full of freeloaders
They want to be able to just keep downloading without having to actually contribute anything. It's understandable but then you run into the issue of missing out on a lot of content that never get uploaded to the site in the first place, animebytes is currently having that exact problem resulting in it not covering much more in terms of content than the public tracker nyaa (animebytes mainly offers better quality).

ratio-poll-184.png

But in the end people will still want to go where the content is even if they bitch and moan about actually having to upload.

PTP to start doing treebans over people inviting people they don't know well enough
Honestly you probably shouldn't accept any user invite to that site going forward. Actually it was probably a bad idea long before this new policy.

BaltimoreFilmores wrote:

PTP Invite Rules Refreshed

On the subject of invite privileges, we've started to tighten the screws on some invite-related issues we've been experiencing on the site. Namely, those using invite-centric forums to trade and buy invites, as well as those performing giveaways (GAs) of PTP invites. As such, the invite rules have been updated to 2024 standards with regards to places you may not offer our invites, as well as some other bits added for clarity's sake. Read the invite rules here.

To note a specific change: you may not invite "internet friends" you have only conversed with in the public eye (such as Discord servers, Telegram channels, Twitter, Reddit, and QQ groups). Doing so will get you and your invite tree banned.

If you have ever used an invite-centric site, given away/traded invites for PTP or any other reputable private trackers, or even bought an invite; now is your opportunity to come forward for the consideration of amnesty depending on how serious the offense is. Conversely, those who do not come forward now and who are caught later on will be judged much more harshly, which will likely lead to you permanently losing your account. To come forward, send a staff PM.

TopShelfPrivilege

PassThePopcorn has strict invite rules that you must follow. These rules will be strictly enforced. Violation of these rules will put your account at risk and we may encourage other trackers to ban you as well.
A good way to determine if you trust an internet friend is this hypothetical test: would you be comfortable sending them $300 right now? If yes, then you can probably invite them as long as you abide by the invite rules below. If you would not be comfortable sending them that amount of money, then you should not invite them to PTP. Additionally, they are not your friend if you have only known them for a month or two, no matter how much you talk. You are responsible for anyone that you invite!
While the amount of rules surrounding invites we have may seem scary, it is unfortunately necessary to combat the swarms of malicious actors that attempt to abuse our site for personal gain. That being said, if you have concerns whether someone you'd like to invite meets our rules (chances are, they probably do), please send a Staff PM before sending them an invite. We'll be happy to clarify for you.
Direct quote from the rules page about invites on PTP which was updated less than 24 hours ago. Effectively if you have someone willing to invite you, they should ask staff if they are unsure if it's okay. Also in doing that, it shows they are willing to be honest with staff and get permission before just doing something potentially harmful to the community.

vintologi24 wrote:

I think the 300$ figure they mention is too low to be honest. You need to be able to trust them a lot more than that (like 5000$).

People on private trackers aren't as desirable as people on them think they are
Sure there are going to be some people who are desperate to get in but can't (for whatever reason) but most people don't actually care about that.

There are plenty of stories where someone invited their friend(s) to a private tracker only to see them disabled later due to them not actually using it.

It's generally not enough to get an account, you need to actually maintain it. On some trackers you can get immunity from inactivity pruning but that generally requires you to donate or to upload to the site.

If you actually want to join say PTP badly you are very likely to eventually succeed in that. It's not actually hard to become torrent master on RED, sure it takes some work but it really isn't that difficult work.

With anime i have noticed that most people don't even want to bother with nyaa, they opt for some shitty streaming site instead.

And outside of TV/movies joining the top trackers takes significantly less work.

RED: you can get official invite directly via interview.

GGn: easy to join from RED (power user is enough).

Animebytes: after a year on RED the official requirement is dropped to power user which is very easy to get (i assume most applying as PU after 1 year still get accepted).

You do need to be elite (and have 6 months old account) on RED to apply for EMP membership making EMP harder but that tracker simply isn't very good, i got a much better impression of h-p2p which is now defunct. There is also a lot of material on free porn sites you can easily download with yt-dlp making empornium the overall worse option.

Why i don't really want to join any of the 'top' TV/movie trackers
Earlier i didn't really give them much attention due to still being far from meeting their requirements and them not really having the type of content i am generally looking for.

But then i realized that they probably do have at least some content that would be of interest for me even if in general it's not what i am looking for. I ended up doing some more research on them to see if it would be worthwhile to join any of them.

HDB aka HDBits
seems like a great site for heavy users since they do not have any H&R rules and give inactivity pruning immunity to donors and VIP users.

But it's not actually that appealing if you are not looking to use a site regularly due to VIP requiring a lot of work to get and other people being required to download 1GB/week on average (not counting the freeleech portion so it's more like 2GiB/week).

Them being one of the hardest trackers to join from RED actually makes them more interesting for me so i might still join at some point if i get more interested in TV/movies other than anime.

Seems like the best option for me if i manage to get VIP there. I don't like using anything that isn't the best.

Main downside i have found is them being limited to 720p or higher which excludes a lot of older material you might be interested in. There is of course other sites you can use for lower res material but none of those sites seem particularly good (except maybe the next one for movies):

PTP aka passthepopcorn
It actually seems to be a pretty good tracker with the main issue i see being H&R rules. Unfortunately their content isn't very appealing to be since it's only movies so i would still need another tracker to get TV slop i am interested in watching (my current trackers are hit & miss for that).

It seems fairly issue to get immune from inactivity pruning on PTP. You can simply encode 3 existing movies and upload that to become power user, you do not actually have to upload anything new in terms of content there.

The main thing they have which i might be interested in is the audio portion of their movies (which you cannot always get from RED) but i could probably also use HDB or BHD for that. Unfortunatily with encodes they recommend lossy audio for movies with surround sound (1280 to 1636 Kbps E-AC3 for 7.1 and 768 to 1024 Kbps for 5.1) making them a bad choice if you are mainly interested in the audio portion of movies (remuxes still have fully lossless audio of course).

This is the only tracker i have been offered an invite to by someone i know. I got the wrong impression that it wasn't too hard to get a user invite to them but you actually need the elite user class there (50 uploads, etc) to get any invite there.

BHD aka beyondHD
For some reason i have a pretty negative impression about this site without really knowing why. Something is telling me to avoid them even though it kinda makes sense for me to join them at the first glance.

There doesn't seem to be much of a reason to actually contribute to the site since they basically have the same inactivity pruning system for everyone. I did not see anything about them giving H&R or inactivity pruning immunity to their best users and that's simply wrong.

BTN aka BroadcasTheNet
They have hit & run rules instead of ratio requirements which is not actually what you want. You also have to donate to get immunity from inactivity pruning. Only TV (no movies).

Why most needs to be kept out of private trackers
While private trackers are important for preservation and being able to access niche media it's not really something we want too many people to have access too.

While i get stuff for free other people still have to pay for it and if people can just pirate they are probably less willing to actually pay money to support the content i am looking for. They should pay for shitty streaming or whatever while i enjoy superior bluray quality for free.

A site that is too easy to access will get a big target on it's back, that happened to thepiratebay. The site being somewhat difficult to access also helps keeping out bad actors you don't want to be there.

Furthermore private trackers require people to put in the work required to keep them good. Sites that push people towards actually contributing (uploading/seeding) tend to have better content and better seeded torrents.

Elitism is actually a good thing. We need more of that.

Are the RED admin geniuses?
I do find myself agreeing more with their policies than the policies of other private trackers but there are definitely things i would have done differently.

LaidbackENT wrote:

The genius of REDs admins
I had a revelation as to the genius of what RED is. RED isn't a typical tracker. It is an archival project, and its policies essentially recruit you into this effort. Think about it. Seeding will not get you BP like in other trackers. Because of this one policy, it forces you to upload to gain that buffer. What if you have never uploaded before? Well, little did you know, when you studied for the interview, you were already being initiated in the into the arts of creating the perfect rip.

So to gain this buffer, you learn and begin uploading content. You scour your shelves for any material that you have. After you have exhausted your own supplies, you begin to reach out to friends and families to find the most obscure content to archive.
But what if noone downloads your content? Not on RED. Content that meets the criteria for a perfect rip is automatically snatched, granting you that precious buffer.

As you continue ripping and uploading, you find your relatives crates and crates of vinyls that haven't been touched in years. You now begin looking into the process of digitizing vinyls. Why? Is it for that sweet buffer? Or is there some kind of joy in this new effort you have undertaken? Regardless, this would not have happened, if you were giving BP for simply seeding. You have now have been recruited into this archiving project that spans the east west north and south.

In conclusion, I believe the policies makers of RED are genius. Simply because they have probably initiated the greatest music archiving effort on the globe by tweaking the policies of the common tracker.

/end rant

vintologi24 wrote:

They didn't actually tweak it that much. It was the replacement for what dot cd.

RED did opt for less freeleech via events but they do instead give out a lot of freeleech tokens which have been more generous than what what offered. The what freeleech tokens were limited to 1GB while the RED tokens goes all the way up to 5GiB (was only recently icreased from 2GiB).

RED does still do a better job to push people towards uploading.

RED introduced a freeload system where you upload only counts if you were seeded said torrents prior to the event and they applied it mainly to lower seeded torrents. This is definitely one of the better systems to incentivize seeding of low seeded torrents.

But giving out 125 freeleech tokens just as a gift is probably not ideal if you want to push people towards uploading. They could for example have required people to get to 20 perfect flacs before they get those tokens.

I think the hardcore focus on uploads is archaic and doesn’t really do much for long term retention of content.
It's not "archaic" it's what other trackers should be doing as well. I have tried plenty of trackers and most of them have a very limited library making it pointless to even join them in the first place.

RED has more seeders/torrent than OPS (21 million on total for RED).

They didn't even get to experience the full cabal ban. They never got an account to begin with, they simply spent money for nothing.

Inviteh*wk
So I’ve been on a bit of a journey. As some of you might know InviteHawk is this website that claims to sell private tracker invites and other stuff. One of the main people running it is someone called J. Stash. They’ve got a ton of fake reviews, fake profiles, Discord and Facebook accounts, rules and guidelines, and even a “mediator” system for purchases over $150. They accept crypto and PayPal (friends and family), and at first glance the site looks legit especially to someone who doesn’t know any better. But it’s definitely not.

When you sign up they make you write an introduction about yourself. There are moderators and different sellers on the site and they’re all doing the same thing scamming people. I had a feeling it might be a scam but I decided to give it a shot anyway. I even asked J. Stash directly about the scam posts I’d seen on Reddit. He responded:

"I understand your concerns. To clarify, I’m not sure what you’ve come across on the internet, but there are often misleading posts and rumors. As with any niche forum or business, there are always individuals who might try to spread false information, especially when it comes to platforms like ours. Tracker staff and certain groups within the community sometimes have negative opinions about our operations, which can fuel these rumors. If you take a look at similar forums or communities, you’ll likely see similar allegations directed at other admins or platforms as well. However, we focus on our own work and community, and we’ve always maintained a reputation for honesty and reliability. We’ve been running successfully for a long time because we don’t get distracted by unfounded accusations or online gossip. At the end of the day, we stand by our service and community, and our track record speaks for itself. If you have any further questions or concerns, feel free to ask—I’m more than happy to address them. Kind Regards, J.Stash"

I paid him half of the money and waited a few weeks he banned my account. I made two new accounts and started digging around. Honestly I’m pretty sure the messages I got were written by ChatGPT. I’m not upset about it but I think J. Stash assumed I’d be too embarrassed to post this online.

Anyways, go on and tell me how much I deserved this. It’s all good. lol

I think what's going on is that people are simply not willing to sell invites for their business model to work so they end up having to basically scam people.

Most people are not going to sell out their integrity for a small amount of money like that and the few that would be willing to that tends to be deterred by the rather draconian measures tracker staff are willing to resort to.

People often have friends that they have invited or memberships on other trackers. Most people are don't want to screw over their friends and most people do not want to get permanently banned from over 30 trackers (including ones they have not yet joined).

Why milkie is underrated
Sure in terms of torrents that are actually seeded they are not super great (similar to TPB) but they do have the advantage of you not having to do anything to maintain your account there.

It's a semi-private tracker where you can actually join at any time.

https://milkie.cc/auth/signup/General2022

Your account will not get disabled because you didn't bother to actually use the site for like a year.

You will not have to deal with H&R rules.

Them not enforcing ratio at all is probably bad but it has the advantage of you not having to worry about that.

Lesser talked about issues with private trackers
Here are some things i have noticed that people often don't talk about.

Trackers doesn't properly track upload or download
Private trackers relies on data reported by the torrent clients people use and they way this is reported is very unreliable. The ones running trackers seem to want to keep people in the dark about this to stop cheating but that also means that people are unknowingly going to do things that causes data not to be properly reported to the tracker (or it gets reported but the tracker doesn't accept it, i don't know the details).

I did read some comments about qbittorrent in particular being bad in this regard.

To avoid issues: keep the torrent running for 3+ hours without interruption after the last activity.

Peer scraping, etc
Due to the bittorrent protocol not being very secure bad actors have sometimes been able to steal peers and download from them. This is also a privacy issue since that can leak your ip adress to people you really cannot trust.

Everyone on the tracker can see your ip if you have uploaded something without doing so anonymously (very easily if you are the only seeder). But allowing uploaders to be anonymous isn't exactly ideal to begin with for other reasons so it makes sense for trackers like RED not to allow that.

Often no tracker has what you are looking for
Sure you can try getting access to more trackers but what you will find out is that a lot of the trackers simply do not have what you are looking for. Then you might try some other tracker only to find the same thing there.

Often the better trackers have quality standards that completely bars some stuff from being uploaded. One example of this is music directly from wii/gamecube games, that's something you can rather easily rip yourself if you have the rom but you cannot really upload that to any decent private tracker since the audio format wii and gamecube uses is a not widely supported lossy format.

The request systems rarely work particularly well
Even on RED (which has a harder economy than most trackers) the request system isn't actually that effective at getting people to upload if they have to spend money.

On RED you can probably get it filled simply by making the bounty big enough but that can be well above 50 GiB unless you are lucky and someone already have that CD.

For trackers with easier economies even much larger bounties are unlikely to actually work. You can offer over 1TiB of upload credit but that's not going to be enough to make someone pay say 60$ for bluray disks required to fill the request.

On RED you also only have 1 hour after your upload to fill the request as the uploaded and if someone else fills it before that you will get absolutely nothing except the first time where you get the "One man's trash" reward. On most other sites the uploader is quaranteed at least half.

Unhelpful forums, etc
You can try asking for help via forum/irc but chances are you are not actually going to get the help you were looking for there.

Generally you are better off asking for help on other spaces. There are exceptions of course.

You are more likely to get use out of forums/irc/DMs for tracker-related topics (such as whether or not a torrent can be trumped) but for other stuff you are probably better off using some other site.

Your best bet for getting help is generally via their IRC chat, you are less likely to get much of a response elsewhere (if you get it at all it will typically be after significant waiting time).

You can be stuck in limbo if you apply via official recruitment
After you have applied to join some other tracker all you can do is wait. You don't know how long it is doing to take.

If you try applying via some other recruiter via another tracker you will risk severe consequences since that can be viewed as trying to get an alt account there.

So you need to check in advance that the recruiter actually logs into the site and then simply hope for the best.
If you do not include everything I ask for in your message, it will not be processed. I will not send you a message saying that you forgot something
I was really paranoid about that. I checked multiple times out of paranoia as i kept waiting for my invite. I had to force myself to be patient which ended up working out in the end.

Getting good information about trackers in advance is difficult
I noticed when doing research about TV/movie trackers i hadn't joined that it was difficult to get good information about them and i am still not sure if i should join any of them (BHD, HDB, etc).

I had more than once instance where my impulsivity got the better of me and i ended up joining some tracker i really didn't need at that time and then you end up having to choose between getting disabled for inactivity or maintaining yet another tracker account you don't really have any use for.

A mix between frustration and joy/excitement
The frustration comes with dealing with the nonsense you have to put up with, nobody having uploaded what you wanted and your requests not being filled.

The joy comes when you actually find something special on a private tracker, something you cannot get anywhere else.

Getting to a better userclass or joining yet another mediocre tracker does not bring joy or excitement though. Sure it's nice to have power/elite TM on RED or whatever but it's not really what is going to feel that nice when you finally get there.

The truth about "encodes"
It is very possible to repackage the content on a bluray disk without any loss of quality. When the only change is the packaging it's called "remux" and is generally what i download for anime.

I have seen a lot of posts on 4chan claiming "encodes are better than remuxes" but in reality that is rarely the case and even high quality encodes will have visible artifacts. Usually there isn't even anything for an encode to fix in the first place and the only advantage with encoding it will be smaller size (which really doesn't matter today anyway given the current price of storage).

It can look the same for one part of the video (which can be cherrypicked to make it look like there was no loss in quality) but that's not going to be consistent. You can change encoding settings but that can only do so much and there is no clear best option to go for. A setting that makes one part of the video better will likely make another part worse.

And unless stated otherwise you can assume the one who did the encode did not use particularly great settings.

H265 is extremily slow to encode with the highest quality setting (CPU, placebo) so people are going to compromise on the quality in order to shorten the encoding time.

I have an i9 13900IKF and that is actually too slow for encoding to be honest (im part due to me not botherint to replace the cooling paste).

X265, placebo: 1 fps
X264, placebo: 10 fps

I have noticed on animebytes that most encodes are done by some release group rather than people on the site and their encoding guide isn't very good. You also typically do not see before and after photos for their encodes so it's probably a lot worse than people assume.

Redditor got disabled on TL due to having internet issues
Then when they finally got their internet working they refused to enable his account again due to his upload speed only being 10 Mbps.

Turns out that this is an issue specific to people who join via their open signups. I don't have all the details though and it's typically hard to get those details before you sign up to the site. I don't remember seeing any warning telling me that i would be required to download within 30 days or whatever when i was checking out their signup form earlier (i never actually signed up due to a PTP user telling me that the site was bad, seems like they were right).

You do have the option of joining via a user invite from the RED invite forum hoping you are not going to get treebanned. I have also seen info saying they are doing official recruitment on BTN but why would you join TL if you can gain access to sites like BTN?

pacmans-brother wrote:

Torrentleech disabled to to inactivity (ISP issues in my area) cant get back in due to upload speeds.
So I got into torrentleech during open signups in december but couldnt really download anything until now cause my whole area had a lot of issues with ISP infrastructure.

I logged in once in a while to see whats new and what im gonna download and seed once ISP fixes all the issues.

Now one important thing to note is that since my area still doesnt have fiber my upload speed is capped at 10mbps-max 15mbps but I can leave seeding day and night and because of that I always make sure to check if the tracker has any minimum upload speeds before I join, in TL case I read ALL the rules and there was not a SINGLE mention of any minimum upload speeds.

Recently my ISP has fixed all the issues and I decided its finally time to download a torrent and seed it only to be greeted by "account disabled" upon login, contacted TL support on IRC and explained the situation upon which they asked me to provide speedtest results and told me I cant get back in due to low upload speed when thats literally not mentioned on any of their rules.

According to their support apperently those minumum upload speeds are only for accounts that got disabled for some reason.

Fuck TL, they let users in with super low uploads (I know people with less than 5mbps upload who are still there) but enforce some minimums when someones accounts gets disabled for inactivity because of something user couldnt control.

OPS leaked sensitive info too all visitors (not just members)
I have not found good information regarding what was actually leaked but this is another failure they had.
anyone getting a text dump of what seems like sensitive info at the orpheus website? i just checked & you dont need to be logged in to see it...
confirmed here too. hope everything's ok. leaked user hash salt, sql/gzpg passwords, etc.
Members of the site also encountered various issues when they tried using the site.

They did stop the leak at least but that info has already spread to various places so you might have to change your password.

Update: OPS is back up and running and they claim that no sensitive information leaked
Sysop has released a postmortem https://orpheus.network/blog.php?id=86
tl;dr, combined gazelle and PHP fuckery along with a few decisions made years ago brewed the perfect storm of circumstances for this to happen, no user information was in danger of being expoded, all exposed secrets have been rotated, the secrets realistically couldn't have been used as they'd require access to their servers, safeguards have been put back in place to make sure this doesn't happen again.

Dear Sir,

I hope you are doing well. My name is Ranjeed, and I am writing to apply for membership on the BLU. I have heard many great things about your platform, and I am very excited to join and download all the amazing content you have.

I would like to say that I am a very dedicated downloader. I have a lot of experience in downloading files from other trackers like desitorrents or yts.mx, and I am very good at it. I always make sure to get the files I need as quickly as possible. I believe this makes me a valuable member of any community, sir.

I understand that some trackers have rules about seeding and ratios, but I think those rules are not very important. Downloading is the main thing, and I am excellent at that. I promise to download a lot of files from BLU and share with my whole family, or people on the dedicated shitting streets of Mumbai.

Thank you very much. I look forward to your positive response, sir.
