There is no shortage of people who are able to talk in ways that make people trust them and want them in charge but very often once they are actually in charge they are not exactly able to deliver because they are frankly incompetent.

We see this over and over again with election but this is a problem in corporations as well.

Just take a look at Phil Spencer and Jason Ronald at microsoft. Both good talkers but their actual results are pretty bad to put it mildly.

Mark Cerny vs Jason Ronald
It's very obvious that Mark Cerny is a much more intelligent and has actual technical competence unlike the people at microsoft. The result of this was PS5 delivering similar overall performance to the significantly more expensive to make series X, microsoft ended up having to take a big loss on each console sold only to still get outsold 4:1. Eventually microsoft decided to cut their losses and raise their prices resulting in their consoles no longer being remotely competetive on the market.

Here Mark Cerny did overestimate the impact the SSD would have (the PS5 SSD performance ended up being overkill) but he still knew what he was doing and he was also able to explain it well to people.

Meanwhile Jason Ronald had to rely on his gaslighting skills instead:

xbox series S is designed to be our smallest most affordable most accessible next generation console delivering all the same great benefits that you get with xbox series X just at a reduced eh rendering resolution
This of course is not what happened and developers were force to do much more drastic cuts to series S version than merely lowering the resolution. A lot of series S games releases never got a 60fps performance mode while the series X version did get that.
Obviously you think of things like high framerates, it was critically important to me eh to us when we designed both these consoles to make sure you get that same great gaming experience whether you choose to play on an xbox series X or you choose to play on xbox series S we wanna make sure everyone is getting that same great gaming experience.

Trying to find the original video for this :
Our performance target for the series X was 4K at 60 frames per second with support for up to 120 frames per second while the performance target for the series S was 1440p at 60 frames per second with support for up to 120 frames per second.

But the reality is is that all the critical components that are really critically important for developers are the exact same between the consoles
You what what is "critically important" ?

Having enough ram.

It took Larian a year to get split-screen co-op working on the series S and that was after the game had already faced a significant delay on xbox (without sony having to pay a dollar for it).

How to prevent incompetent people from gaining influence
What you need is formal systems of power that are resistant against populism and where you cannot just gain power by getting 51% of the vote.

One good thing with capitalism is that proper ownersnip makes it harder for someone who is better at appealing to the masses from taking authority away from what you have build through real competence. They can still try to sell their bad products via marketing but actual competent business owners can simply hire people for that.

Naturally people like Richard Wolff hates capitalism and promotes "workplace democracy" since he want incompetent people like him to be able to take over businesses away from the people who actually build them and then run them into the ground.
