PS6 vs project helix

While sony will continue with the more traditional console business of keeping the cost of the console down to then make money from subscription and game sales (30% commission on everything) microsoft opted to make a high end PC-console hybrid via "project helix".

Seems like there will be dev kits ready in 2027 and that there will indeed be some console versions made for project helix.

Game library
While PS6 will still have some actual exclusives a lot of former playstation exclusives have already been released on PC allowing people to play them on the next xbox and sony will not be able to prevent that for any game already released since piracy would remain an option even if sony were to delist some games from steam.

There a lot of games that never got released for PS5 to begin with in addition to mods that have been PC only but thanks to the next xbox having windows basically all of those games will be available. In-addition the there are a lot of emulators released to PC allowing people to also play titles only released for older consoles and often with significant enhancements such as higher resolution and even raytracing.

The next xbox will also inherit tne backwards compatibility features the xbox series consoles had which does provide official support for a decent portion of the xbox 360 and original xbox games (while having near 100% support for xbox one and xbox series games).

Honestly it's pretty clear that the next xbox is going to have the better library based on the game preferences most people have when you factor into all the games you will be able to play that were never specifically ported for the console (such as metroid prime 2).

But when it comes to games that were only released specifically for the console then PS6 will likely end up with a much wider library. The next xbox very much needs windows to be competitive so it made sense for microsoft to make a hybrid rather than just another console.

Performance
The next xbox will have significantly more powerful hardware and unlike XSX vs PS5 i am not aware of any hardware drawbacks that is going to hold back the next xbox. I am pretty sure that microsoft has learned from their mistakes with the xbox series consoles.

The main rconcern for the next xbox in terms of performance is developers focusing more on the PS6 but i do still expect the next xbox to deliver better performance in large part because there will be the regular window versions of games to play (with very few exception) as a fallback.

The CPU technology is based on the latest Zen 6 architecture, while the graphics side of the equation taps into the upcoming RDNA 5. In both areas, Microsoft is said to have more hardware, along with a wider memory interface - 192-bit vs Sony's 160-bit bus.

There are also differences in processors. Project Helix is credited with three high-performance Zen 6 cores and eight energy-efficient Zen 6c cores. PS6, according to rumors, will mainly use Zen 6c cores and additional low-power blocks.

Differences are also noticeable in graphics. Xbox may receive up to 68 RDNA 5 compute units, while PS6 will receive about 54.

Price
The next xbox will obviously be significantly more expensive than PS6 to manufacture. It's also pretty obvious that microsoft is going to make a significant amount of money on each xbox sold for the next generation while sony will likely instead sell it close to 0 profit or even a loss. Due to the ram shortages both consoles will be expensive with the next xbox being significantly more expensive (such as 800$ for PS6 and 1600$ for the next xbox).

But the manufacturing cost (if microsoft handles it competently) should still be significantly less than the cost of buying the PC parts required to match the performance. It's likely to end up cheaper than most/all prebuild PCs you can buy new (unless you buy a PC with worse performance).

Convenience
Here PS6 will likely come out on top but it remains to be seen how well microsoft delivers on this front. Microsoft is actually working on making windows gaming better for their hardware such as via "advanced shader delivery" to eliminate shader compilations (important for games that never get an official port for the next xbox).

But there will definitely be cases where it's more convenient to play on PS6 such as due to the windows version of a game having issues in general requiring troubleshooting.

Support for high framerates
Besides the significantly better CPU offered by project helix windows gaming (which project helix will support) has the advantage of letting you yourself change the framerate instead of having to wait for developers to update the game for you to let you do that (at least with most titles released on PC).

With PS6 you will have to wait for developers to enhance the games for the next generations while with windows gaming you will be able to enjoy the better performance right away.

I do expect support for 120fps to become significantly better on PS6 compared to PS5 but still far behind what you get currently on PC.
