You have to be able to cite, e.g. Vintologi 21:17, so that people start taking this seriously as a legit cult with ambitions of going somewhere. Also, it should be a really long book, like at least 600 pages or something, preferably 1,200, so that people are like, "Wow, a book this long must have some insightful nuggets somewhere." This allows the few who actually read the whole thing to feel special and look down on all those who haven't bothered to read it as ignorant fools. If someone argues with the precepts of Vintologi, the members of your inner circle can reply, "Have you even read the whole book? Sounds like you need to study more." Since hardly anyone will have the patience to sit down and read all that, that tends to be a pretty effective way of shutting critics down. By the time anyone does read the whole thing, they'll be so invested that they might as well convert and stay converted rather than leaving and losing their whole investment.
Look how successful writing a Book of Mormon enabled the Mormons to be. If they'd just relied on the existing Bible, they would've been merely another Christian sect. Not that the Book of Mormon has a lot of groundbreaking doctrine anyway; it basically reiterates the same points as the Bible and adds just a few more doctrinal points such as drinking coffee's being contrary to God's will, and the fact that blacks are black because they're evil. But the original Bible already said cursed be Canaan and that he's supposed to be a slave to his brothers, so even that is not really all that new.
The fact remains, though, they did write a new book that purported to be new revelation, so that gave them a reason to feel special above other religions that didn't have that book.
