I don't think it literally means "descendants of Abraham" because probably most modern Jews aren't actually in that lineage. Since Abraham's DNA wasn't sequenced, and we apparently didn't preserve any of it in amber for sequencing today, it would be hard to say.
I think what happened was, any time there was some big-nosed, curly-haired guy who was like, "Hmm, I'm a pretty paranoid, neurotic, manipulative guy with high verbal IQ," he thought to himself, "I know! I should become a Jew" and then he started hanging out with Jews and getting his sons circumcised and whatnot, and he just pretended like he had been a Jew all along. And after enough generations of going to synagogue or whatever, his descendants were considered legit Jews. By that point, they'd probably interbred with other Jews, so now if you tested them, they'd be part of that bloodline. Doesn't mean it started out that way.
Weird too that people say it's bigoted to say, "The Jews don't need their own state." What about the Mormons; why don't they get their own country? Why can't they just kick all the non-Mormons out of Utah and make that their own sovereign state?
What about every other religion; what about Vintologi or anything else?
