Why do the media and the courts shield the identity of sexual assault victims?

There are at least five possible scenarios here:
  1. The chick is damaged goods from being sexually assaulted, and that's why she doesn't want people to know she got assaulted, since it might harm her relationship, career, or other prospects; or
  2. She was complicit in getting "assaulted" which means that she's a slut, and therefore damaged goods from the perspective of those who don't like chicks with a slutty past, which has the same implications as #1, above; or
  3. She was assaulted by a family member, which reflects poorly on her because she's part of that family; or
  4. She actually framed the accused for sexual assault, and if her identity leaked, all kinds of guys might come out of the woodwork to tell the court or the public what a liar, a slut, and/or a nutcase she is, from their own experiences, plus it might hinder her ability to make more false accusations in the future, if people realized how many different guys she has accused; or
  5. Actually there's no stigma at all to having been assaulted because she's a strong woman who's brave for coming forward.
In the fifth scenario, she doesn't even really need anonymity. In the fourth scenario, there's potentially a miscarriage of justice, and/or a cover-up thereof, that's going to transpire if her identity is shielded. In the first three scenarios, all that's happening is that we're depriving the public of information they need to know so they can know to avoid getting involved with that chick. https://www.returnofkings.com/75000/why-you-should-avoid-women-who-claim-rape-and-sexual-abuse-at-all-costs

6. they dont want her to be harassed by other people online, there are a lot of creepy guys these days that will not respect other people.

Being a public figure come with a cost, a lot of the attention will be bad.

The damaged good concept does have some limited validity depending on country.
