My grandmother really only had a few stories she used to tell. Occasionally she'd talk about how she was born in Chicago and worked as an elevator operator.
But the main two stories she used to tell were, (1) she got married, and (2) he used to beat her so she divorced the son of a gun.
She was equally proud of both stories, I think, because both basically represented getting the upper hand in the situation. She got this guy to commit to her, and she dumped him when she didn't want him anymore.
I used to ask her if she remembered him ever doing anything nice for her, and she said not that she could recall. According to my mom, though, he was nicer to her than either of her two subsequent husbands, who used to throw her around and stuff. My mom's attitude was, the way grandma acted, any man would want to hit her.
I mean, there came a point in that marriage where she was not only going to bars and getting fucked by other men, she also slept with this guy my grandfather admired more than anyone else, who owned the local golf course. What I heard is, she had a threesome with that dude and some other woman. People say that my grandfather was physically incapacitated when he found out, to the point he could barely walk, and my grandmother said that maybe she went too far in getting revenge.
Anyhoo, I also heard on the radio where one of the radio hosts was saying that she celebrated every year the anniversary of her divorce. That really is how it is! Women love divorce, because it's how they show they can get the upper hand and prove their independence. Usually they are the ones initiating it; they're cutting the guy off and thereby hurting him, which is another triumph for them.
Women love to be able to grind a guy under their heel and move on to the next guy(s), while he pines after her and thereby shows his weakness and how beneath her he is, which reassures her that she made a good decision in dumping him.
