Maybe we have too many elderly around and God decided to help us get rid of those whose immune systems are so compromised that obviously they don't even need to live anymore.
The issue is that the current virus (sars-cov-2) is too weak, its simply too easy to survive, its like an exercise that will enable you to do better in the case of a more serious pandemic.
