Nvidia is about to release GPU:s that will be significantly better than their old GPUs and also cheaper, this seems good until you start looking at the details.
The first obvious issue is that in order to get a good amount of VRAM you need to go all the way up to the overprized RTX 3090 (that might not even fit inside your computer), they are clearly intentionally crippleling the cheaper models since they want people to get the 3090.
They are also overprizing the 3070, it's actually significantly worse performance/$ than the RTX 3080
Another issue is that none of these cards support displayport 2.0 and this may cause issue for you in the future if you want to get a new monitor.
Some people have speculating that nvidia is holding back models (like 3080ti) awaiting what "big navi" from AMD and this doesn't look too good, we shouldn't expect too much from AMD in terms of performance, they might however pressure nvidia to lower the price of the RTX 3070.
GDDR6 ram is actually cheap (less than 10$/GB) and given the fact that RTX 3080 with GDDR6X actually offer more cudacores/$ it's clear NVIDIA is ripping people off with the RTX 3090.
Code:
MODEL cudacores memory price
3090 10496 24GB GDDR6X 1499$
3080 8704 10GB GDDR6X 699$
3070 5888 8GB GDDR6 499$
